I have 3 HDD's in my desktop machine that are 500GB, 640GB and 700GB in size.

Can I mix them together in a RAID 0?

I don't mind losing some diskspace since if I get 500GB on each drive since I still have about 1.5TB on my storage array.

The plan is since I cannot afford any SSD's yet, I want to get some better performance out of my HDD's.  All drives are on a 6GB/s SATA link and 7200RPM drives.

And after I made the RAID, make a 250GB OS Drive with partitioning the array and have a bigger storage partition.  I do not really store critical data on my drives that I really need to have, those I store on my NAS.

So can I mix the sizes and still get a performance boost?

I already read that, but didn't find it so helpful and confusing since nothing of it really awnserd the question I was going for.
