Chrome OS

I'm probably way late on this topic but the other day I had the chance to use a Chrome Book. It was intresting, as I booted it up I saw the chrome logo on the screen I was thinking maybe it was just like how RoG customized the Windows boot-up, but no. After it booted up I was thinking something along the lines of 'what the hell...' this weird google operating system was weird. I clicked on the chrome logo in the bottom left corner and it brought up the google search?! Where's the menu or task manager or something like that? The only thing I could fully understand was chrome as I use it on an everyday basis on my windows PC. Anything for anyone else to share?

Chrome OS is a linux distribution. It does not have the ability to run flash applications and it is mainly intended to be used as a light productivity tool for office work etc. The search button will search on both locally stored files and on your google drive account if connected. Chromebooks are almost useless if you do not have internet connection as they rely on google's office suit which is online only afaik, albeit this is bound to change in the near future when they receive adroid apps support.

 

The idea behind them is that you can save a lot from the cost of a computer by removing the windows license fee and replace it with a lightweight and well optimized OS. That way you save more or less 100$ and you are also given the ability to use lower end hardware and just slap a small ssd there in order to make a pretty much optimal productivity experience. You will see a lot of chromebooks that use 8 or 16gb ssds and you might htink "wow how do they sell this garbage!1 " but in reality that's all you need for office documents etc.

ChromeOS is a completely new operating system designed off of a Linux distro (I think) from the ground up. It has nothing to do with how Windows works, and has many limitations behind Windows. It doesn't support third party applications or programs (including the Microsoft Office suite), they typically don't have very high system specs, and the build quality of most is questionable.

Chrome OS is a very locked down operating system from my experience. If you are looking for a fast, long battery life school laptop Chrome OS could be a good solution.

 

I use to sell these when they were first released but I don't own one. From what i remember you cant install software the general way you would on Windows only apps from the google play store. I have absolutely no information on back-end settings and customization but I would guess it's fairly restricted.

ChromeOS can run flash in the chrome browser, The office sweet can work offline either sync from google drive or on a usb stick. I am using a Chromebook just now

Yeah it runs the browser, it doesn't have all the features as the online one but its enough.

Yea I agree. I'm more and more tempted to buy one when my laptop dies

Yeah i got one for college 2 years ago and i still use it now for most of my work stuff.
