Phone Advice

Hey all! I'm a student going into senior year at high school. Was looking for a good phone (android only) for under $400 and wanted to know what would be best. Also, my carrier is Verizon, so I need one that is compatible with that.

nexus 6p / nexus 5x or one plus three

The One Plus 3 is great  or the new Nexus phones are right around the corner. Even though I love my 5x, I would advise you want to get a Nexus since the new one is so close

One Plus three is one I think of, though stay on the lookout maybe Google will release a new Nexus after all (I really hope they don't kill the nexus line).

Only 400$ phone from Verizon that is "good" and not refurbished(VZW's refurbs are terrible):

Also I doubt the Nexus' and One Plus will work, since VZW is a CDMA network instead of GSM(like the rest of the world), and Verizon gets pissy about activating devices that aren't official Verizon.

I think the OP3 is pretty insanely amazing looking (and right around your price mark).  There are also some nice Huawei phones and I just learned yesterday that they're available at Best Buy for around the same $$ (maybe a hair more).

Nexus 5x and 6P should be fine. Hell, I'm on CDMA AND GSM.

Please ignore my advice, OnePlus does NOT support Verizon.. nice catch QueenDemetria, I should have thought of that, but I use AT&T who couldn't care less.

I guess this leads to my second question: Which carrier then? I currently get a 19% discount on my Verizon plan from my work, but if I switch to AT&T I would get 25% discount. Which would be better because I was considering the OP3.

Project fi?  Also that activation process make me feel great that I don't use VZW :).

Either AT&T or T-Mobile(I use TMO since they have better plans and policies), I can't recommend Verizon.

in THAT case I call win/win if you hop to AT&T and OP

It's Google's phone service. On both Sprint and T-Mobile. I pay $20 per month for unlimited talk and text, set an estimated data usage (3gb for me). I'm charged at the start for the data ahead of time, so $50 total, and I get refunded straight to my bank for what I don't use. Last month I only used 1.2gb, so I got $18 back. No credits, no discount off of the next one, just a deposit.
