Hey guys,

So you know when you do a fresh install of Windows 10 on your PC, it automatically starts downloading some necessary drivers (assuming it has the LAN/WAN driver installed). So at what point do you start installing your own drivers (that came with the mobo or using the manufacturer's website) and any drivers/software utilities that you might have for other peripherals?

Reason I ask is, I used to install windows 10 without the network cable plugged in, and then install the drivers off the disc from the manufacturer's website via usb stick first before connecting to the internet. However I've been told that windows sometimes replaces the drivers I have installed, with ones it thinks are the latest which mostly is fine, however sometimes it can installed older drivers and/or break things.

I'd like to hear about your methods.

Thank you

At best the drivers on the CD are the same. Most likely they're older. So you really don't need/shouldn't use the ones on the CD. After Windows finishes, go take a look in the Device manager and make sure there are no errors. If there are, you can install that particular driver from the manufacturer website. Still not from the CD. :D

This is Windows 10. ^^

With Windows 8.1 and older you're not at all at fault by installing known good drivers from the CD and a friggin' antivir before plugging in the Ethernet. Win 10, Microsoft has really picked up their game. Both with the drivers and with the initial antivir/firewall.

Sorry I didn't mean the CD, I mean't the manufacturer's website. I ll correct that in the OP.

And okay, so let it do it's thing and then check if anything is missing. Roger
