I think the oneplus 3 is great and for the money its a bargain, but if you do want a better display you can take a look at the axon 7 which has better speakers, better display, and a bigger battery. getting support for it maybe a bit tricky for the oneplus 3 but for the axon 7 if i remember you actually get a 2 year warranty and please correct me if im wrong.

Axon 7. Anyways XD, the OnePlus brand makes really good products for the cheap, altough new updates may take quite a while to show up, but thats normal with Android anyways. Day to day usage is a bliss, great build quality and performance overhaul and theyr support service actually works decently well enough (cancelling orders and asking for suggestions or concerns with your current device), you just need to tackle the employees addressed to the live chat that arent proper english speakers most of times :l.

Hey there!

Right, so my brother has never had a smart phone and isn't looking to get anything far too expensive. What are your thoughts on the OnePlus 3 as I have heard it isn't very reliable and getting support for it can be a bit tricky?

Oneplus 3 is excellent, build quality and camera are really quite good. Some people complain about the screen but they're nitpicking. Have a look at reviews of the Oneplus One and 2 if you want to see how reliable the company is.

If you don't want the Oneplus 3, then have a look at the Moto G4 Plus.

I edit my posts a lot.

Most nitpicky fellahs are also the ones that compare the OP3 to an S6/S7 Edge display for example. Obviously the Samsung one will be much sharper, vibrant and bright and "curved" but then again what where they expecting? Comparing the OP3 display to almost any LCD out there would make it really hard to complain.

I'm looking into a OnePlus 3 myself. A lot of people are pointing to the Axon 7, and it seems like a good choice on paper too, but my biggest concern with it is the software. Their skin is weird, and the fact that you need to click on that bell to check your notifications from the lock screen is just... impratical.

The OnePlus is closer to pure Android, and they've been updating firmware on a regular basis. (sRGB mode, video recording improvements, etc.). I wouldn't expect the Axon 7 to get newer versions of Android any sooner than the OnePlus 3. In fact, I think the opposite is more likely.

I also believe that the screen's lower resolution is only a significant concern if you plan on using it with something like Google Carboard / Gear VR. Otherwise, at that scale, I think 1080p is pretty good.
