Hi, soo my friend has:

Intel Core i5 2400 @3.1GHz 6MB L3 Cache, socket LGA 1155, Sandy Bridge

2 x 4GB DDR3 @1333MHz - Dual-Channel

Gigabyte B75M-D3H

Inter-Tech Energon EPS-650W CM

One Kingstone 30gb ssd and 60gb ssd + 500gb HDD

GTS 450 1gb

And windows 10.

Soo the thing is, he wants to upgrade to GTX 750ti 4gb, and we'r woundering if its eaven posible, cause motherboard has pci 3, but i5 doesnt suppport pci 3, it just supports pci 2.

Well the only difference between PCIe 3 and PCIe 2 is bandwidth (speeds). I don't know 100% for certain, but I would imagine that it would just run at 2.0 speeds. a 3.0 card can run at 2.0 speeds just fine and with no complications, especially one like a 750ti.

Why the 750ti though? why not something a little more current like a rx 460, 470, or 480? Should be quite a bit better than the older stuff.

Cause he didnt eaven wanted to go over 100 euros, but, if i wouldnt showed him this one, he would have bought some pci 2 card for 50 euros with 4 gb memory.

Basicly i just need to know if its going to work, or he needs to replace cpu 2? And what about PSU

Yes i already said it would work. I'm currently running a gtx 950 (pcie 3.0) on a first gen i7 (not PCIe 3.0). it will work totally fine.

and a 650W PSU is more than enough for even the most power hungry GPU you can find. it won't even flinch at something as small as a 750ti

that power supply sounds VERY sketchy. don't listen to zyndo's advice, don't turn on the pc until he gets it replaced. what options for the psu do you have?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

oh relax. you people on this forum are so damn snobby about your PSU's...

Don't get me wrong, if he CAN get something more mainstream and more reliable or whatever then sure, he could and probably should do that. But a 750ti with an i5 is hardly even a notable load for a 650W PSU. Hooking up such a small GPU to that PSU isn't going to result in fireworks.

P.s. Congrats on getting mentioned in a LTT video Herman =)

just because its labeled 650w doesn't mean that it can actually output 650w. for all you know, it only managed to sustain 650w for a split second before blowing up(or a completely fake label).

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=71 some random chiefmax in the review died at 184w out of its supposed '650w' capacity. come on, he can spend a few more bucks to ensure that this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/26/exploding_computer_vs_reg_reader/ doesn't happen.

fyi, i'm not that snobby about PSUs. i give psus like the 500b and W1 a pass in budget pcs(not in high-end ones) while i'd know some other members go apeshit over them in any pc.
