cpu help

Hey guys i have a friend who is wanting to build a pc for mainly photoshop work he has got some parts already though he has the 

p7p55 ws mother board

16 gb ddr3 ram

2 gb gtx 750 ti

the mother board has a lga 1156 socket and he is wanting to get the xeon x3480 or the i7870 

 

I recommended the xeon because it had hyper threading and a higher clock

but was i right any help would be great they are both priced similar

The Xeon may have the higher clocks, the i7 also has hyper threading and can be overclocked most likely.

They are both going to do the trick. If you can overclock, get the i7, otherwise get the xeon. They are both pretty cheap on ebay. But compared to newer CPUs, they are pretty slow ...

i was under the impression that the non k cpus and xeons both overclock porely

My xeon e5640 and my i7 920 both did pretty well ... but you do have to know what you're getting yourself into. As far as I know, the i7 870 has the same architecture, just in a smaller manufacturing process, so they should be great overclockers as well.

Okay cool i am not sure if the guys wants to over clock i doubt it but anyways thanks
