Newb overclocker here.

Yttrizy

Yo,

Got my new system, it is running smoothly, but i wanted a bit more juice out of it. So i OC'ed my CPU to 4.2Ghz, its a i5-6600k with krakenx41, temperatures on load are 41oC on average, and i oc'ed my gpu just a bit to offset +100. I wanted to ask, is it true or myth that overclocking can damage your lifespan of components?

Only if you go beyond the limits designed with voltage. For a 6600k, the highest maximum voltage recommended for 24/7 operation is 1.4v, provided you have adequate cooling and keep your temps in check while under load.. GPU's have voltage locked in the BIOS so it shouldn't ever achieve higher than designed voltages.

i have 1.34v at 100% load, but im not leaving my pc 24/7. Is that enough?

Not a good test and thats no where near long enough. Go download Aida64 and run that for a few hours with CPU, FPU, Cache, System memory checked to be stress tested. That will tell you if you are good or not.

Voltage never sparked more than 1.36

I realize that, but Prime95 is not a good stress test for newer CPUs and 5 minutes certainly is not long enough. You barely let it heat up... Do what I recommended and you will be good then.

If temps are cool, yes. I leave mine on 1.3v under P95 load 24/7 and it still didn't catch fire.

*sniff* *sniff* Hey, what's that smell of smoke.... OH SHJ---

5min ain't enough. Give it a lengthier test, say 30min~1h.

I find AIDA even worse... plenty of stories of people being *rock solid* on AIDA for hours and crashing as soon as opening a game. Not to say that P95 is absolutely perfect and that will never happen with it, that's not it. But that's rarely ever the case.
