Hey guys!

It will soon be time for the best day of the year: Black Friday :D

I want to get some upgrades for my gaming rig, but I'm not really sure which parts to get.

First, here is my complete build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Mx4Tnn

Here is my experience after using it about a year.

I can play all the games I want, (I just tried Battlefield 1 demo and I get 45/50 FPS in ULTRA). The big downside is I cannot Overclock the CPU past 4.2 GHz (the PC crashes after like 5mins)

I love this PC. It's my first ever build just for me. But hell, I work in IT and building computers is a passion :).

For now I don't really have a big budget (around 800/1000 CAD). I would like to change the processor and motherboard, but at the same time I need to change RAM.

Here is the parts I was looking to get:

Processor:      Intel Core i7-6700K    (Yeah intel!!!!)

Motherboard:    I was looking at them:     GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0)    ,   GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming (rev. 1.0)       ASUS Z170-A LGA 1151

RAM: Anything 32gb

As you can see, my budget is really tight. If you have any recommendations go Ahead!    I really want the I7, so if you have a higher price motherboard and bust the budget, say it anyway ;)

Thanks a lot!

What do you use your PC for? If just for gaming, 16Gb will be plenty. Same thing with the i7. Do you do rendering/video editing? If no, i5 will also be fine.

Hahahaha yeah forgot to include that in the question  ^^"

The 32 Gb is for a simple reason: minecraft :D   I play with a modpack with over 200 mods,   just playing the game requieres 6Gb of RAM. And That's when I don't host a server. I had 16 before, and it went in dust really fast with just minecraft + server running.

As for the I7, I don't really do rendering and stuff,   I though it would help a little for my games (I heard Cities Skyline is a lot CPU bound and I play a lot)

Don't listen about the i5.  If you want the best, get the i7.  There are plenty of games that will bottleneck if you have a high end GPU using an i5.  Also, I think we might be getting close to a next gen Intel CPU release.  Should have more info before Black Friday.

Yay! A fellow C:S+Minecraft player (though my laptop isn't beefy enough to run C:S, but I still love the game regardless).

OP doesn't have a high-end GPU, he/she has a 960. We are also getting close to the AMD Zen launch, be kinda interesting to see how that plays out.

It is true I don't have a high end GPU' but after upgrading the CPU it's my next Goal. I want to get a GTX1070 or wait for a 1080ti :D

As for AMD Zen, I never really liked AMD. Too much thermal output, Higher TDP, ...  I had past experience with laptops having an AMD APU and I don't want to get another one. Zen does seem appealing. If it gets released before black friday and reviews and benchmark goes out too, I will give it a chance.

If budget is really tight, drop the i7 for a 6500 or 6600, and possibly the Z170 chipset too. You really wont see that much of a performance increase, and Overclocking on Skylake is kinda meh.

I said budget is tight, but it's just I want to get parts in this price range (CPU around 500$, Motherboard around 250$ and RAM around 100$/150$   CAD)

The great question relies on the motherboard. If I go for skylake (LGA 1151), are any of my first choices good?

You could maybe cram a 1080 if you go with a cheaper motherboard (take your pick between Z170A and Ultra Gaming) and less RAM.

Oh and do you already have a copy of windows on one of the drives you kept? Since I see windows listed in your partslist.

Thanks a lot for your help!

After reviewing your build, I changed some things a little. I didn't think that for 100$ more, I would get a 1080 hahahahaha
I check the reviews on the gygabyte board I had and they say the Creative sound is really bad. I changed that for the Ultra Gaming (lower price). The Asus you put didn't have enough USB ports for me hahahahaha (got keyboard, mouse, headset, ps4 controller, webcam and phone to plug there ;) )

After checking the performance on the Zotac, I checked the difference in price with a Gigabyte GPU, and took the Gigabyte G1 GTX 1080.

With all those changes, I got 30$ more than yours, and 100$ more than my initial! Yes I have to give off some RAM, but do I really need 32gb? I don't run a minecraft server often so for now it is true I can get less.

That is Awesome!

For the windows, I do keep the drive, but I will need a licence to activate it (I had a windows 7 license before ^^" )
