Project MightyMouse/My computer story

SkylakeAlex6700k

So, i'm 13 and have only had laptops all my life. when my Sony Vaio Decided to shock me, my brother stepped in and gave me his hand me down college laptop from 2004 (IBM Thinkpad T42), I decided that I needed something new.

I started out with $300 (USD) to my name. I scoured eBay for computers (used). What i was looking at was this http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-COMPAQ-8200-ELITE-SFF-Computer-500GB-4GB-CORE-I7-2600-QUAD-CORE-W-HT-26749-/262594247174?hash=item3d23d63a06:g:uKoAAOSwZVlXvxZt. Then I did some more research and figured out that in order to play games, i'd need a Graphics Card. So I searched the Bay for it. I came up with this http://www.ebay.com/itm/nVidia-GeForce-1GB-VGA-DVI-HDMI-PCI-Express-x16-Video-graphics-Card-Low-profile-/380746318263?hash=item58a63fc1b7:g:FoAAAOSwhMFXlLF6. After more research, I figured out that I would need a beefier Power Supply. I came up with this http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOGISYS-Computer-PS480E12-480W-ATX12V-Power-Supply-/291286881069?hash=item43d20d132d:g:kp4AAOxyFIFSA~-b. But then I got the idea to build my own from scratch, as a summer project. From previous laptop experience, I knew i7 was really good. So I went to Intel's website and looked at the latest i& linup (Skylake). The 6700k looked good. So, I looked up some stuff on YouTube about how to build a PC. LTT Showed up first, and I was off to the races.

I started watching the videos, then I went on vacation, that meant more time to learn. Then I got sick with the Flu, which meant even more time to learn, while I was on the couch. I eventually learned how to build a computer by the end of the trip. But I still hadn't decided which components to use yet. I kept watching the videos, and eventually posted a question on the forum here. Asking what a good build what be. All of you helpful people helped me decide on what parts to use. At least for a little while. I was told that a 6700k and a good motherboard would be enough. Still undecided on the RAM and GPU, I watched both of LTT's Videos about that. I decided on 16gb of DDR4 and a GTX 980. Along with Noctis 450 and an evga 750w. The total $$$ was way more than I had, so instead of being a chump and asking my parents to help, I Started reselling used golf clubs, and RC car Parts. Eventually I got enough $$$ for the whole big computer. But then I heard about broadwell-e coming soon so I waited a little while until it came out, along with the i7 6800k. For a motherboard I went with an Asus x99 deluxe, because in one LTT video, they said that for their editing rigs, they used the x99 deluxe. But then realized that maybe i'd like the strix x99 instead. so i put that on my list. as for my power supply I went with the corsair rm750i. I had enough money for the LGA 1151 build, but not an x99 build, so, i figured out that i would get really good CPU and Motherboard, but get a really cheap GPU until i could afford a better one.

That's the story, now lets get into the parts if you didn't already get them.

i7 6800k

Kraken x61

Asus Strix x99

Nzxt s340

Corsair rm750i

(Coming soon) Asus GTX 1070 Strix, NZXT Hue+, and NZXT Grid+ v2

I also made a timelapse of me building it:

I called it MightyMouse because to me it looks like a mouse, and has great specs so it's mighty.
