Main difrence is that the A is a mainstream board, and the Pro gamer is a gaming related board.

The pro gaming has typical ROG feutures like supreme FX audio and a diffrent rog theme´d bios.

The A on the otherhand like i said is main stream, with crystal sound audio implementation.

Allthough both audio implementations basicly feuture the same realtek ALC1150 chip.

The Gaming edition boards are just slightly upgraded there.

For the rest you could check the the feutures and compair them based on amount of usb and sata ports.

But i think that they are pretty similar as far as connectivity feutures are concerned.

I would go with the Z170-A if you're looking for more internal features such as additional USB3.0 headers. If you need more external features like USB 3.0 ports on the back of the board then the Z170 Pro Gaming would be better since it has an additional 2 ports built in.

Personally I would say go for the Z170-A since it has more features on the board itself even if it is lacking a couple USB 3.0 ports on the back.
