So as of now I already own a "gaming" pc (because of the card ive put in it) but im looking for an upgrade. But it still lacks the gaming power i need and tends to bottleneck and slowdown a lot. With many outdated parts I started a search for a perfect fi into my lifestyle.

But my issue here is that i would like this computer at a seperate location. Ive looked into laptops and watched some videos but it just seems like gaming laptops are just a rip off, with the inflated price and watered down gpu's and cpu's to acommidate laptops. I'm looking to build this computer around newer gaming titles and a lot of rts style games (so a little cpu heavy). I'll be using one monitor and ill need to get one, ill probably get a 1360 X 768 monitor in HD 1080p. Atm i dont really care about the case, aluminum or easy to open would be nice. (for future upgrades or just style) BTW also need keyboard

Currently I am using a Gateway DX822 with:

  • pentium r dual core cpu e5300
  • 6 gb of DDR3 ram
  • 4 terrabytes (1 in a internal hardrive, and 3 in a external WD Mybook)
  • 300 watt power supply
  • GTX 960 with 4 gb of DDR5

I have a $1000-$1500 (USD) budget and willing to reuse some parts of my current build. Like the 3 terrabyte hardrive and my GTX 960 if it really comes down to it.

  1. I would love to have one of the newer Nvidia cards such as the 1060, 1070, and or 1080.
  2. A intell i5 6600k
  3. 16 gb of ddr4 ram
  4. and 2 terrabytes of hard drive space

Those are the parts of a computer I am familiar with, like i have no clue on what motherboard, power supply, cooling method, or if a ssd is even needed.

this build puts you smack dab in the middle of your budget at $1250 and has all you need for a rock solid gaming experience. it should be able to max out almost any game out at 60 fps at 1080p or 1440p, Certainly at the ultra presets at least. This gives you SSD, 6600k, watercooling for excellent overclocks, a 1070 strix, and a primarily black and white theme with a massive side window to show off just how sexy everything is. to top it all off, this is only $1250 so you have some extra spending headroom for a monitor, peripherals,  OS, more powerful components, or whatever else you deem necessary and this build comes with enough stuff that you needn't pull anything out of your current rig.

Hello Superpanda :) Welcome to the forum!

The guys gave you some really useful tips and suggestions so I'd definitely consider them.

Regarding the storage, do you have any particular usage in mind or requirements? WD Blue is a great storage drive which should serve you pretty well in this build so I'd consider it. Any plans for a SSD?

not sure, like i really enjoy fast load times, but idk if im willing to fork up the extra money for a nice one, but would enjoy the security of having my os on one just in case my hard drive crashes

haha no the keyboard can go over budget, but honestly dont know if to go for a nice mechanical or not

if you have the money(and hate membrane keyboards...), get a mechanical keyboard. if you just want something to type on a normal membrane keyboard will be fine.

Having two different drives is a smart idea since keeping the data if the other drive crashes is easier this way. However I would recommend having a full backup on an external drive, NAS or on a Cloud Service of everything important that you don't want to lose.

Let me know if you need more advice regarding storage or backups. :)
