Hi,

I am looking to purchase a new laptop for my dad as a present however I need help and advice with finding one. I already have a PC for gaming and this is more oriented for everyday use, it will likely not be turned off but left in sleep mode instead however it does not have to have a good battery as it will be in the same place most of the time, weight is also not a problem as it will probably be on the floor or a desk most of the time.

The specs I am looking for are:

  • CPU: I don't mind however AMD is preferred over Intel but and Intel CPU would be fine.
  • GPU: It is not meant for gaming however due to problems with the current laptop he is unable to convert videos without it crashing and it takes a while and so a GPU that could boost these kinds of applications would be good. (It does not have to have a GPU, if anyone could recommend software that would work with an AMD GPU that would be useful also).
  • RAM: Anywhere upwards of 4GB, 8Gb i good any more is fine but not necessary.
  • Storage: HDD storage is fine as the current laptop takes up to 15 minutes to boot so an SSD is not important. Upwards of 500GB would be best
  • Screen: 1080p would be nice but screen quality is not important
  • Connectivity: Very basic USB type A no need for type c or thunderbolt connection, it would be useful to have a HDMI output though.
  • Other things: A disk drive would come in useful, if possible a slot for an m.2 SSD would be nice as although it is not needed for fast speeds I would like to be able to upgrade in the future, it does not need to come with one as this will put up the price too much.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be much appreciated, I am looking to spend no more that £350 so I can sacrifice things like a GPU and m.2 SSD however I am open to higher priced solutions provided that are not too much.

Thanks
