Help me pick a monitor!

i would like a monitor with ips, 100mhz refresh rate, minimum 27" (2560x1440) and preferably 34" wide (3840x2160). i prefer somethin non flashy and more of a scandinavian style design. if possible

buliding a new pc and have picked almost all the parts. but having trouble picking the monitor. i have chosen af gtx 1070 gfx card, but do i "need" to buy an expensive monitor with g-sync or would i regret not spending the extra cash.

I will be using the pc primarily to play games on on a casual basis. The games i will be playing are diablo 3, witcher 3, dragon age 3, rocket league, football manager and some rainbox six perhaps. none of it in a competitive manner in any way.

I find it depends on the games you play and the FPS your rig can handle with said games, If your getting fairly high (say 60+) FPS minimum consistently, the effect of a G-sync monitor isn't anywhere near as noticeable, however if your getting below drop's down into the 40-50 range or lower, then G-sync makes things MUCH smoother to look at, if you play FPS that needs a consistent image and quick reflexes, and your rig struggles to get over 60 frame consistently in the games you run at the settings you want to run at, then and you play CS:GO or something, then get a G-sync monitor, if your running less intensive games, are willing to lower the graphics setting's to improve FPS or dont mind not having a butter smooth experience in your games then don't bother with the extra cash.

Short answer, only you can decide if you'll benefit from sync or not.

For me, I ended up with an Acer XB270H with 1080P 144Hz and g-sync running off of a 980Ti because for me, I'd rather a butter smooth image, high graphics settings and high refresh rate over more pixels.

I would look into spending less on storage to get a 1080 or a i7 for high refresh rate gaming. I mean, do you really need that Red drive and the 950 Pro? The benefits these do to gaming is probably insignificant to non existent. For instance, WD red drives are designed for things like NAS systems not gaming or general use PCs.

Sounds like you've made up your mind. Admittedly, it's hard to justify the price of G-Sync but the fluidity it offers, especially in Triple AAA games such as The Witcher 3, where a GTX 1070 cannot push that 100FPS at 1440p, makes an enormous difference. Anyone who says it doesn't is lying.

I personally have the ASUS PG279Q paired with a GTX 980Ti. I'd certainly buy it again.

you are right. i have apparantly forgotten to update the hdd drives. i'm chosing cheaper versions. however the prices on 1080 cards are still insane where i live compared to 1070 imo so that upgrade is probably not worth it. Regarding the cpu i've gotten the impression that i7 wouldn't help much if any when it comes to games.

i hear what you are saying. but just find that the price is really hefty and im a bit "worried" that there's going to come a better prices alternative soon and im gonna feel the money is a bit wasted. do you know if acer, asus or others are planning something similar to the type of monitor i described above.

ps the ASUS PG279Q was/is my current go-to if choosing a g-sync - but still not 100%. it was much easier in the old days on this issue :D
