i am trying to install W7 on this sm951 and I keep running into issues regarding a missing driver.  I have r5e mobo with 5820k.  bios recognizes the device the install manager recognizes it as well so long as i install it while running windows on another drive so far if i try to install it from boot using a usb installer it doesnt show the drive.  I am using the uefi installer.  Any help would be appreciated

You want to select the non UEFI version of the USB installer.  When you first boot the computer, hit F8 and pick the version of the USB installer that is NOT UEFI.

Make sure that you've disconnected any other SATA or PCIe/M.2 drives before you try to install Windows 7.  You can hook them back up when everything is done.

i will try that.  everything else i had read said use the uefi installer

You would use the UEFI installer for a UEFI compatible OS such as Windows 8 or 10, but not Windows 7.

Let me know how it turns out.  If you still have problems, you may need to make some additional changes to the CSM.

you still need to have the NVMe driver to provide it during the install process, W7 does not have native NVMe support

le: it appears that there are two versions of this m.2

  • MZHPV - AHCI
  • MZVPV - NVMe

mine is the mzvpv amd i have tried installing the driver during the windows install and it still fails.  I have been told that i have to change a setting in the bios but mine does not have that particular setting.  Its the PCIEx8_4 and M.2 located in the onboard devices configuration.  I am at a loss

on 2nd though, it's much complicated than that: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941

you need to inject the hotfix into the install kitt :/

the easiest way to inject Windows6.1-KB2990941-v3-x64.msu is with NTLite: https://www.ntlite.com/download/
