So been watching some programmes on supercomputers and how they run at X amount of Petaflops and was wondering how many my own machine ran at.

I've not got the most up to date machine, but I'd say it's probably better than the average computer so I was interested to see what It could achieve.
I ran a test and found that it was running at 77 GigaFlops, I overclocked my CPU from 3.5Ghz (Default) to 4.5Ghz and then re-ran, this gave me the number of exactly 100 GigaFlops.

I looked around on the internet with people claiming that 3000 series intel chips should be hitting around 130 Gigaflops and wondered if anyone else had numbers I could compare to.

I used the program QwikMark 0.4 to measure the performance and my system specs are listed below.

Thanks for helping

System -

i7 4770K
Saphire 7970 Dual

8GB RAM
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Motherboard

GFlops just sounds funny.  Maybe I'm crazy.

They don't sound as bad as Petaflops

Well played Sir!

Anyways, just hit the "run" button right?

5960x @ 4.7 = 423 Gigaflops.  Whatever the hell that means.

423 - 3.JPG

It means that your CPU can perform 423,000,000,000 (423 billion) floating-point operations per second, floating-point being numbers with decimals involved.

My i7-4720HQ can do 71 GFLOPS at 3.4 GHz.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.

Thanks for the breakdown bud!

Oddly enough, running this benchmark doesn't seem very stressful on CPU, but if you run the FPU only stress test on AIDA64, shit gets fun in the temperature department.  :D

It's a single-core test. Does AIDA run the test on all cores?

can someone please tell me why I hit the post button one time and it posts twice? that's just beyond annoying

The last forum update broke some things. @colonel_mortis is probably working on it, so bear with him.
