I would recommend either SLI 980, but can be risky as your games may not support and PSU not delivering enough power.

 

RX480 is a solid card. But just a quick comparison and you would probably get worse performance.

Keep 980 lower settings -> will work perfectly, especially if you are saving for a good GPU upgrade in the future.  

 

SLI 980 -> Not a good option. The 4GB VRAM will hit you hard at 1440p. 

 

sell 980 buy used 980ti -> Great option. Best among the ones you listed. 980ti doesn't have low VRAM and runs almost every game at 1440p ultra at locked 60 fps. 

 

8GB RX480 -> Hell no

 

stay at 1080p no gpu upgrade -> will work since you can upgrade both your monitor and GPU once they get affordable. 144 Hz 1440p monitors with G-sync cost a LOT of money currently and should get relatively cheap in 1-2 years. Also 1070 and 1080 will drop in prices when AMD releases vega.
