After purchasing a 144hz monitor I switched from using a hdmi cable plugged directly into my GPU, to using a DVI cable plugged into my motherboard (To use the 144hz). Now after moving my PC and plugging it all back in I turn on the monitor and it says no cable connected even though it is clearly plugged in correctly. The HDMi works when plugged into the GPU and the DVI shows up when the GPU is not plugged in, however when the GPU is in and I try to use the dvi it doesn't show up anymore. Thanks for the help in advance.

Go into the BIOS, there is usually an option for configuring display adapters which disables the motherboard graphics when a GPU is connected, it sounds like that has been toggled back on.

try using an hdmi to dvi connector like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVI-D-24-1-25-Pin-Male-To-HDMI-Female-Adapter-Connector-Gold-Plated-Stylish-/201468572673?hash=item2ee8767401:g:1mIAAOSwZVhWSttA

connect it with the hdmi cable directly to the graphic card... or use a display port cable, provided your monitor is compatible...

Like @Glenwing said the motherboard connection is probably turned off because you have a GPU installed. So either try his suggestion or if your GPU doesn't have a DVI connector, get a DP cable (if your monitor has DP).

If I used that adapter would I get the 144hz + My monitor doesnt support display port

not absolutly sure but it will be a cheap test... only 2 to 5 bucks for the adapter... you can also try a display port to dvi conector... also cheap

The only thing I can find in the integrated graphics place are two tings: PEG and IGD I dont know what they are?

HDMI 2.0 can do 120 Hz, though you need a compatible monitor and gpu. You'd also need a certain type of HDMI cable IIRC. I think you're best bet is to try a DP to DVI cable/converter that supports 120+ Hz.

I think I may have misunderstood the situation a little bit then. If the same setup worked before then all I can think of is what @Glenwing said unfortunately :/

So do you think everything is still working fine in terms of the gpu and mobo?

I have the graphics set as PEG in the BIOS which I think means something to do with PCI, so the graphics card.

Yeah that's the PCI-E slot. What are the other options there? Is there something like "PEG/IGD" (as a combo, not separate) in the options? That should enable both PCI and the on-board graphics I think.

The only two options are PEG and IGD and it is set as PEG but the DVI still does not work

Setting it to IGD would enable the DVI on the motherboard, but disable the PCIe slot.

Yes. Just a random thought, but maybe you can refund the monitor and get a different one with DP? Or just keep it if you'll upgrade/change to a card with DVI in the future.
