PC Upgrades

Recently my computer has been playing up and not booting properly until I give it a good few goes.I suspect it is either caused by my Processor (I5 4690k) or my motherboard (Gigabyte Z97P-3D) and because of that I am looking to upgrade. Would it be worth the extra money I would pay to upgrade to an I7 6700k with a decent Z170 motherboard (any suggestions would be appreciated) and new 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM or buy an X99 motherboard and an I7 4790K and keep the 16 gigs of DDR3 I've got now? If any of you have experienced this problem before and you know the culprit then please tell me as I would proberbly end up saving some money if it's just the cpu that needs changing. I assume it is the CPU as I have also had some cpu related BSODs such as clock_watchdog_timeout. Thanks for any help I get in advance :-)

Well the i7 4790k is a Z97 chipset CPU, so you would NOT be able to use that in an X99 board. You would need to get an 5820 or similar CPU to run in X99 or the newer 6800+ CPU's. 

 

Try and describe the issue you have better and lets see if we can find out the reason behind it and potentially save you some money.

My PC doesn't boot up first try as soon as I press the power button, I can hear some fans turn on but not my case fans and when this happens it trys to load into windows and crashes. But I can eventually get my PC to boot through multiple goes of pressing my power button and waiting to see if it boots.

And it would probably be better if my mobo was not the problem as I have already got a Z97 motherboard in my system so it would be cheaper for me to just buy an I7 4790K

I am thinking its more of either your Motherboard or PSU honestly.

CPU's generally don't go bad unless they are damaged honestly.
