BIOS keeps freezing

So I got this motherboard, cpu and set of ram from a friend. Its only about a year old and he got a new motherboard with all around better stuff. i'm trying to get into the bios and change settings here and there but it wont stop freezing. It'll freeze occasionally and then go back to normal. The problem is, I have an i5 6500 and don't want to update the bios because of the embedded microcode updates that prevent overclocking non-k sku cpus. What can I do?

Clear the CMOS and clean the metal contacts in the RAM slots and the DIMs themselves with DeoxIT
