Ok, so I live in New Zealand (for currency reference) and have recently decided to build my own gaming PC (exciting, I know).

The thing is, there is so much depth in desktop building that I'm not sure where to start...but you guys are ;). I shall now give my preferences:

  • Money: ~$1000 USD ($1500 NZD)
  • Should run recent games (2016) at good quality, but I'm not sure what $1500 can get me lol.
  • Doesn't need any fancy things like VR or 4/8K, because really, what's the point? (for me)
  • Needs to be reliable, and run for awhile (1/2 a decade at least?) - but then again I can always upgrade
  • One of my wishes as a child was to have a cool-looking desktop - so, not necessarily liquid cooling 'cool', but cool chassis and lighting 'cool' ;) (I like blue + white combo)
  • But really, speed is most important (sacrifices can be made) - obviously, as this is a gaming pc, I prefer a good graphics card.

Thanks to all in advance, I hope I'm not restricting you guys too much, feel free to send what you wish

[ I know this is a repost, I accidentally posted this in general discussions first sorry :( ]

I overall have a good idea for a white/blue build but that one would be 1400 USD.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/PfspHN

NZXT. Noctis 450 white/blue case would be exactly what you want but the case is completly

overpriced for your budget. Also overpriced are the cables from ensourced.net but they look

slick af.

A 1060 is the best bet for your budget so I went with the Asus Dual 1060.

Z170-A is also a good nice looking motherboard which fits the colour scheme.

Avexir Raiden is probably the best looking memory I know and it perfectly fits

your colour scheme as well.

I know it's completly over your budget but take a look at it and you can still say no.

Btw. you can also go for cheaper cables from amazon for 25$ so the overall costs would be 1300 USD.

They also look good but they either come in white or blue afaik. Havent seen any white/blue combos.

So I tried combing the parts off of http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/TMGJM8 and this http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/FGBqm8

to come up with this: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/xznpHN

any recommendations?

You could buy a windows 10 key off reddit software swap for much cheaper, which would allow you to fit an SSD into that budget. However if you're not comfortable with that then that looks fine. Try to save up for an SSD in the future, or if you don't have too much to store, then get the SSD instead of the hard drive as it's a pain to transfer windows and other programs over.

Looks great! Try to double check that monitor for reviews and consider getting either the better power supply I suggested and/or the 1060 if you can afford it. Otherwise looks good.

There shouldnt be any problem. RX 480 is 240mm and the case supports up to 310mm.
