Hey guys! I would really like some help since I'm not that good with computers,

about 9 months ago, I build my first own computer, and it's working great! The thing is, with my studies and all, I have to move it a lot, and the case i chose for the build is big and clunky. I was wondering if i could transfere my hardware to a smaller case, without losing the "quietness" of the build (my computer is very quiet). These are my parts ATM

CPU - intel cote i5-6600K

CPU cooler - Be quiet pure rock

GPU - Geforce GTX 970

Motherboard - Asus z170 pro gaming

Memory - Corsair vengeance LPX 6GB

Storage - 250 samsung 850 EVO SSD

Chassi - Fractal design define R5

I want to have really small quiet computer, if its possible. Which case would suite me? will i need to buy another motherboard? will everything fit and be compatible on the new motherboard?

thanks in advance

Philip

If you want the PC to be quite and small temps will be higher. There will be compromise. How small are you wanting to go? That will depend on whether you need to change the motherboard. If you want to go console size you will need a new cpu cooler, motherboard and PSU. (silverstone RVz02, ML07, Fractal Node 202) If you go for a shoe box it will just be the motherboard and the CPU cooler (silverstone sg13, fractal core 500, coolermaster elite 130). If you want bigger than that or dont want to get too many parts let me know.

CPU: Intel i7-4790K @ stock for now --- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16Gb --- MOBO: Asus Maximus VII Formula --- GPU: MSI Gaming GTX 980ti --- PSU: Corsair AX860i  ---  Storage: Samsung 850 250gb(OS), 3x Western Digital Blue 3tb (one for game and programs, two for media), 3tb WD Green(somewhat backup) and a Crucial M550 120gb SSD (caching games and programs drive)  --- Case: Fractal Define R5 --- Cooler: Corsair H100i with Noctua 2000rpm, Industrial Fans --- OS: Windows 10 --- Monitor: Asus PB298q + AOC l2260SWD --- Mouse: Logitech G502 Spectrum --- Keyboard: Corsair K70 (Cherry MX Red) Red LED's --- Audio: Audio Engine A2's (yes the originals), Sennheiser HD 58x Jubilee Audio-Technica ATH-AD900x, Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, Ant Lion Mod Mic V4 --- Laptop: Dell XPS 9750

Thank you so much for answering that fast!

I definitely want a shoe box size, are you sure my CPU cooler wont fit in the Fractal node 500 case?

Which motherboard would you recommend? I really like the one that i have now from asus, maybe something similar? And whats the difference in ATX and smaller motherboards? other than the size, performace?

If you are sure the CPU cooler wont fit, which one would you get?

Thanks again!

With the core 500 you would only need the motherboard the cooler will fit. Though it is a bit bigger than the others. You shouldn't have any differences in performance just higher temperatures and less expandability  . Is price an issue for the motherboard and are there any features you need on the board.?

I dont actually know what i want, i want to be able to overclock in the future. What else is there I should need on a motherboard?

And yes, i would like to have it pretty cheap, but still, depends on what iam losing. Could you maybe give me some suggestions?

If you want almost 0 compromises the Asus maximus 8 impact

https://www.amazon.com/MAXIMUS-VIII-IMPACT-LGA1151-Motherboards/dp/B016F3QWRK/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472290137&sr=1-8&keywords=z170&refinements=p_n_feature_six_browse-bin%3A2057509011

something wallet friendly but still lots of features gigabyte GA Z170N Gaming 5

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-LGA1151-Mini-ITX-Motherboards-GA-Z170N-Gaming/dp/B014W2000Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472289946&sr=1-1&keywords=z170&refinements=p_n_feature_six_browse-bin%3A2057509011

Or somthing in between asus z170i pro gaming

https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Motherboard-Z170I-PRO-GAMING/dp/B015FY4HLS/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472290126&sr=1-4&keywords=z170&refinements=p_n_feature_six_browse-bin%3A2057509011

These are the three id recommend at various price points. Oh and 1 more thing you will be giving up is 4 ram slots so 32gb max ram with 2 16gb sticks

You may have issues with the maximus impact and the cooler due to the riser boards

I dont really care about ram, thank you so much for the help. I think iam going to go with the gigabyte motherboard, because of its price and wifi. And the fractal 500 case. Thank you so much for helping me out!
