Some mining setup questions regarding GPUs

Hello there everyone, I am mining a few currencies and have come up with a few questions I'd appreciate answered. I have one 16x, and two 1x pcie slots, so I have my 980 in the 16x slot and want to have my 750ti in a 1x slot using an adapter. I want to know if there are any risks in powering one GPU with a second PSU, and lets say someone turns off the second one by accident, what will happen? Is the 750ti in more danger than the 980 if that happens? I have seen adapters on ebay that sort of like split one pcie 1x slot into 3, if this is possible how many GPUs can I have in one pc, or more like connected to on pc? How much worse would the card perform due to the loss in bandwidth? Thank you all very much ! :)
