So the other day at my grandpa's house in the garage, I found an old, (not really, but still) CPU, an I5-3570K (Ivy Bridge). He said that as he had no use for it I can keep it. Should I use it in my PC build as CPUs cost a lot or build a newer Skylake (or even 10nm when they come out) one, even though the CPU will cost a lot. Also, feel I should mention this but, I'm planning on having this thing on a PC that should last for a while (8-10 years) for primarily School and Gaming purposes. Will it be able to last and be good for that much time? Thank you

That's a good find! I would test it to see if it posts, and if all is well, try to stress it using AIDA64 to validate its stability and if it has any wear on it. If it's all good after at least 4-5 hours with sufficient cooling, you should be good to go!

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

Ivybridge isn't that old.

It will still perform just as good as a haswell or skylake i5. Just get a z77 board to oc it.
