Fan breaks audio

Power Supply: EVGA 500W

OS: Windows 10

Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3

CPU: AMD FX-4300

Memory: 8GB

Hard Drive: 1TB 7200RPM

Video Card: AMD R9 270X

Headphones: HyperX Cloud II

 

This seems very unusual, so it's understandable that you might be doubtful.

 

I have a fan which is powered on an extension plug similar to this one which also powers my computer. Wherever I turn the fan on I can hear a slight clicking sound in my headphones. Earlier today I turned the fan on and it completely disabled any audio until I had turned the fan off and then on again.

 

This is not always reproducible, and I've only noticed it today.

 

Is this normal? Is the extension plug/PSU faulty? Could this be dangerous?

Probably a cheap extension plug. Try the fan on another outlet. I wouldn't say it would damage it but there is the possibility if the thing is broken.

Just keeping this here as a Try putting the fan on another circuit. You could have bad power to the house, and the fan could cause interference with a stable supply.
