Have you considered a Chromebook? I bought my mum a Toshiba Chromebook 2 with the celeron for browsing, email and netflix/iPlayer, the latter function it performs fantastically. the 1080p IPS screen it has rivals my £1600 980m gaming lappy. I think I paid about £280 for it.

I would prefer to steer clear of chromebooks due to them lacking Microsoft Office support. I'll be doing most of my work in an environment where WiFi is unavailable, so the online version of Office would be pretty useless. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.
