Hey guys,

i'm just thinking: is the 1080  already a 4k capable card also over the long term? benchmarks shows them in the ~50 ish fps range so my guess is, if you plan to keep a card over a long time, it's better to pair it with 1440p (allthough it is right now almost overkill in 1440p 60Hz) to be able to maintain high framerates even with new titles in one or two years.

your thoughts?

In general, monitors aren't updated all that often, so I wouldn't advise buying a monitor to match a current card as it will likely be updated before the monitor. The 1080 is very capable at 4K on its own, especially if you lower settings a little below max.

I would personally choose to go with 1440p 144Hz right now. I'd say it's better than 4K for gaming.

well the friend of mine getting it won't go for a new card within the next three or four years, and within this time, it might be also time for a new monitor (depends on use ;) )

he's getting now a 60Hz 1440p and the 1080 sc ... we had quite a debate about that because first he wanted 4k, but taking a look at the timeframe he'll use that card....

the other thing is/was: he wanted real thin bezels.
