Hey everyone I am new to the PC gaming scene and want to get started. My main use of my Gaming PC will be to play PC exclusive titles such as CSGO and strategy games such as Civ. I would also like it to be able to handle newer, more graphically demanding types of games such as Arma 3. I wish to spend around $700 US or so on the PC including a Monitor (my current one is only 720p). I have a tentative list of my build that I compiled myself but would appreciate it if you all would give me some feedback on my current list or make a new list, if you feel I am horribly off track. :)

(Btw I know the current build is over budget I feel like I might have some wiggle room to get up to $800 if it is truly necessary)

Thanks everyone

So, are you only going to be playing in at 720P, or buy a 1080P monitor

For 1080P, get the 970

For 720P, get a 950

However, I always recommend getting EVGA graphics cards.

Especially in your case, I'm not sure that windforce card will fit because of its length

May be a unpopular opinion...

I would drop the I5 to an I3 and an 1060 3g or 480x to squeeze a little bit more for the monitor, since 1080p @60Hz will not be future proofed at all IMO.

That'll bottleneck hard.

You'll want the i5 for Civ.

Surely it will hurt the performance more or less (depend on the game), but I see it as a long term investment since you can keep the monitor for many years to come. And we can see that the OP is on a tight budget, so maybe this kind of compromises could be made.

Another argument (More or less, it's very situational) it's that it will hit 60FPS on higher settings on 1080p anyway in most of the games right now with or without the I5, so , it's really down to personal preference if the fps worth the money spent.

But anyway, like I said, it's in my opinion because I'm that kind of guy who would sacrifice some FPS for a few penny and few goats to Gaben.

Do you think there is anywhere that I could cut corners using the build you suggested without much of a loss in performance, also what kind of frames do you think a build like this would get in a game like Arma 3 or Civ 5

you can get a cheaper monitor for $10 less, get an rx 480 8gb/i5 6400(although you'll lose some fps), swap the hynix with a cheaper ssd for $4 less or get a 1tb hdd for $20 less, get a cheaper rosewill case for $10 less or swap the rosewill for an evga 450/500/600B(unrecommended).

Do you think that this build could play current games at reasonable performance, I really don't know much about how these components transfer to the final product so I don't know if I will have a machine that can only play older games or if it will be able to keep up with the times. This is a very big investment for me and I want to be sure it is worth my money. What do yall think?

You can try scrapyard war style. Go to your local computer shop or recycle center to look for some seconde handed monitors or storage. It should come fairly cheap. As for the performance of this specs, with my not so professional look, it should run newer games comfortably for at least 1.5-2 years if the trend continues.
