Okay, so here is my dilemma: I want to upgrade my "display game", for no more than $400, but I am not sure what path to take.

I have an MSI R9 390 as my GPU, and I already own this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00RN08I86/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471885883&sr=1-1&keywords=G257HU

(an IPS 1920x1080p screen)

So I was wondering, should I:

1. Buy a 1920 x 1080p 144Hz display?

2. Go ultrawide?

3. Buy a 1440p 60Hz display?

What 1440p monitor should I get?

What CPU do you have? Because for 1080p 144Hz, you must have a good enough CPU...

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mice: Logitech G Pro X Superlight (main), Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Viper Ultimate, Zowie S1 Divina Blue, Zowie FK1-B Divina Blue, Logitech G Pro (3366 sensor), Glorious Model O, Razer Viper Mini, Logitech G305, Logitech G502, Logitech G402

dual screen would be crap for gaming but is awesome for productivity, I guess what I'm saying is if you only interest is gaming get a better monitor if you're happy with what you have for gaming but do a lot of multitasking then the 2nd screen.

either way you end up with dual screens I guess ;)

What 1440p monitor should I get?

if you play a lot of games and most of them you need to pay attention (like csgo), go for 144hz. Dual monitor? If you want work and watch a video at the same time, or if you stream on twitch for comments, donations, etc, then go for it. I only would choose 1440p if i had sli or crossfire, to play my games everything at ultra without lags.

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

i7-6700k lol

Then buy a 144Hz panel... But you will have to lower some settings to get to 144fps but, as far as I know, it is worth it

More worth it than 1440p?

This is up to the individual, do you care about resolution or about smoothness...

Cool, I was trying to decide in-between the:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UM68-P-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471886726&sr=1-5&keywords=ultrawide%2Bmonitor

and the 29 inch variant,

also, do you have any recommendations for ultrawide in my price range?

Absolutely no point to buying a 60hz gaming panel of any type whatsoever unless it was a 4k panel (and 4k panels can't go up that high to "gaming grade" refresh rates due to displayport limitations anyway, and the amount of GPU horsepower to get playable framerates is a different topic).

Ultrawide or not is up to you.  Some people like it, some don't.  It's great for airplane and racing games, but I would go crazy if I tried to play a FPS on it.  I assume with ultrawides, people just drop the resolution back to 16:9 with black bars?

What you suggested is pretty much the best option (in my opinion) at this price point... (I am thinking of buying it myself :P)
