I'm looking for help on what to do with my build, I want to be able to play games on max settings with a high frame rate.

I need to be ready for battlefield 1 ;)

I am thinking about upgrading CPU and Motherboard and have already ordered more ram, however I don't know what board or CPU I should get.

My current specs
Processor          AMD A10-6800K Quad Core APU (4.4GHz) & Radeon™ HD 8670D Graphics

Motherboard     ASUS® CROSSBLADE RANGER

RAM                 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2133MHz X.M.P (1 x 8GB)

Graphics Card  3GB AMD RADEON™ R9 280X

I currently run battlefield 4 at 60 fps on high setting, my CPU hits 100% and temperatures get hot :(

Any help would be appreciated. :)

upgrade cpu to a skylake i5. you need ddr4 ram and a new motherboard for that.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Can you cancel your order? I hate to say it, but you went hasty and made a bad purchase decision. A really bad one, for that matter.

these parts should help you with the cpu bottleneck/heatproblem http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Grzqpb

dont know if the 280x will run bf1 on ultra but that can always be changed later on

If you already orderd more ddr3 ram you should either cancel the order if possible or go with a b85 mobo and a I5 4460 or 4690

I'm not sure i ordered 16 GB from PC specialist :/

Man... this was such a stupid purchase. If it was only a second stick of 8gb, at least it would have been understandable. Not the smartest idea, sure, but at least it would make sense. But 16gb when you have 8 already? Dayum, gotta love dem "shoot first, ask later" police brutality motto, huh?

Anyhow, give them a call and ask about their policies for canceling orders. If they didn't ship it yet, you might get away with canceling it for free.

Wait... you bought 8gb or 16? You just told us you ordered 16gb, but now you are talking about adding 8? Wot m8?

Regardless, doesn't change the fact that it wasn't a smart purchase. Ask if you can cancel your order or not; what to do will depend on that answer.

yes ok, still the ram isn't a big problem i need to upgrade that's the main thing

Yes, and since you are upgrading, might as well get DDR4 along with the rest of the system, rather than sticking with the already dying DDR3.

You know, that's why we are here. To help you know what to buy. First, discover if you'll get those 60$ back from cancelling your order. Then, give us your budget so we can get a grasp on what we're working with.

You already gave us your system specs and what you want for your PC, so all that's left is to decide how much cash you can spend (which, again, will depend on whether you can get +60$ or not) for us to point you in the right direction.

why not buy an 1150/51/56 socket cpu and board and run the ddr3? you're not gaining much by going to ddr4 or the supporting cpu/board.

Intel core i7 4790K S 1150?

OH. Oh. You aren't from the US, my bad. 60$ is the average price for 16gb of RAM there.

That's alright, though, nothing changes. Give us your budget in £ once you've found out if you'll get those £90 or not.
