Hey, So my set up upgrade is almost complete. The last couple of bits are underway and now I am looking for a desk mic to add.

I know small amounts of information about microphones so I have come here to ask for some help.

I don't know whether or not to head towards USB or XLR. I have heard that XLR is much better for future proofing sound quality and overall the better choice.

My budget is about £200-£250 For Microphone and if needed Audio Interface. My budget does not need to include Pop Filter and Boom arm

I have looked around and was looking at a Scarlett Interface and an Audio Technica mic but not sure if that would be perfect for what I need.

I will be using the mic for In-Game use, Teamspeak, Live Streaming and maybe some youtube videos if I get round to it.

Let me know if you need any more information,

Many Thanks Dexter :)

Current chosen parts (Can be changed if you think I could do better!)

Pop Filter: Wanway MU-7 Microphone Swivel Pop Filter

Boom Arm: Rode PSA1

The AudioTechnica AT2020 is a good option for an XLR mic, it's only around $100 USD, and has great sound quality and looks great as well.

If you want to step up a little, check out the AT2035, you can easily get it with a shock mount, pop filter, and xlr cable all for around $150 USD.

Also, the Rode PSA1 is a great mic arm, if it wasn't so expensive I'd pick one up.

I have actually seen both them, I will get the AT2035 as it is the 'better' one. What about an interface?

I haven't had too much experience with audio interfaces, so I'm not the person to answer that for you, however I've heard that the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is one of the better audio interfaces for the price. (Around $125 USD for Gen 1, or $150 USD for Gen 2)

Yeh, I looked at them but was unsure as mixed reviews, Hopefully, someone else will say something about interfaces.

£200-£250 to speak to buddies and 3 viewers on Twitch huh? Wouldn't spend that much just now, grab a Blue Snowball or an Auna Mic-900 and maybe upgrade to something worth £200 or so if more people begin to watch your content.

Money isn't a problem, I might as well buy the best now and save money in the long run. Just like I have with my PC throwing 1080 in it.

So I did some research and I believe the AT2035 will be perfect. I just need to find an Interface that will be perfect with the microphone. I was looking at the Scarlett interfaces but have read that they are not as good as they are said to be. Is this correct should I look elsewhere?
