i bought an asus ux31la-us51t for school, but it came with a doa battery and it is currently out of stock, so i cant replace it. could anyone recommend a laptop for me? here are the specs i would like:

i5 or better, would highly prefer intel over amd

8gb of ram or 4gb of upgradable ram

128gb ssd or greater or 1tb hdd

12-13.3 inches. nothing bigger or smaller

thin and light. am willing to sacrifice ports

windows 8.1 or windows 10

350$-400$ usd

asus or lenovo.

uhh how about dell and lenovo. cause asus is basically trash these days except maybe a few "okay" ultrabook models.

most of the nice dell laptops are too expensive, or at least from my expirience

A little more than your budget (and not an i5 or higher), but worth a look:

HP Spectre X2

 

Small i5 notebooks will cost you quite a bit more than 350-400.

True. I don't see the guy needing anything demanding though seeing that he's looking for a thin and light for $400 (unless he's looking at used models). The MacBook runs a similar processor.

 

Even a refurbished last gen model i5 will run around $500 for a 13 incher, and that's without an SSD. An older refurbished ultrabook might fit the budget.

That's incomparable. OSX =/= Windows. You can edit videos on Final Cut with that Macbook and better than almost all Windows laptop short of the desktop replacements. Whereas the same processor on Windows will take a year to edit the same video.

 

You can feel a significant difference between using m series and u series. A bit difference between u and quad. And quad to desktop quad is pretty unnoticeable in day to day usage.

I agree. @kelvinhall05 your best option is second hand/refurb business ultrabooks.
