Is it worth getting a refund?

I have bought a Asus Maximus VIII hero alpha is it worth returning to get a cheaper one that isn't so gimmicky? But is still as good.

Thanks.

I would get this one, https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-WS/

The External usb 3.0 on the mobo is so usefull, the dual ethernet port, the PCIE layout. Its a shame there wanst a mobo like this back in z97, from someone who has a hero vii.

The ROG MOBO have REALLY good quality, there way better than the msi gaming mobos, but they have too many useless features, some of witch dont aways work (keybot Im looking at you).

Might I interest you in the MSI H170?

I dont know how much things have changed, but back in z96 I had an msi gaming 3 and an ASUS heroVII. The ASUS ROG put the MSI Gaming to shame. The bios was more intuitive, the automatic overclocking feature was not as good as manual OC in both, but in the msi it outright dint work. On the ASUS I just had to lie and say I was using my pc for media editing and not gaming, cus otherwise it would overclock the ram on top of the allready existing XMP and cause stability problems, but I got it to work, less than what I can say for MSI geany or what it was called, cant renember been a while.

When it comes to GPU both MSI and ASUS goth strong points, ASUS is best ou off the box, but if you take your time to trie out different OC profiles you can get better performance on an MSI. But on Mobo, ASUS is better, not by much mind you. Id still rather have an msi than a gygabite or asrock.

yes, I agree Asus BIOS is more user friendly. But OP came from another thread asking about his first ever build. I'm pretty sure he will not be overclocking, playing games such as Minecraft, CSGO, and BF4. I am recommending him a bang for the buck hardware, as to not waste his $300 on the Hero

Id say go with this one. It has the same quaity has an ROG, minus the useless features. If I was going to do a gaming z170 build This is the one I would chose. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-WS/
