Malwarebytes

Matsy

I hear allot of people suggest Malwarebytes as a good program to test for malware etc.

Is it really that good? what about the free version?

It's a fantastic program and the free version is fine to use.

You do have to update the program manually if you use the free version though.

It is THE best when it comes to virus detection and removal, although the free version doesn't really do anything else other than that.

I use it on top of Avast. They never have conflicts (probably because the free version doesn't do much beyond detection/removal), so having both is fine imo.

I prefer Avast if I can only choose one myself. 2+ years of a virus free computer does that to me. Mind you, I am very good at avoiding sites that are malicious though.

Remember, common sense is the #1 antivirus. :P (The more you know!)

But yeah, Malwarebytes is good, but only if it isn't alone.

I can only recommend it to use besides an active antivirus software. It's really good and a nice extra layer of protection.

malwarebytes is not an anti-virus.. it only scans for malware.. which it does a damn good job at

Like many others I use it alongside Avast.

I haven't seen any sort of malware in years, so it must be working right? :P

I went ahead and bought the full version back in 2010 so I could have the real-time protection.  It's great because it's a one-time $25 fee and you get to keep it forever (you can find it even cheaper on ebay).
