980M upgradebility for 10XX

Greetings,

I've  Clevo P751DM-G  and I called to my builder and they gave me info that my 980M cannot be upgraded for any 10XX card due to it's oversize.

10XX mobility are bigger than MXM standard and I've no room in my laptop for it.

This body is huge so I'm 95% sure that you can't upgrade 980M at all then.

It's pain in the ass, I bought this laptop for one reasone - that's upgradebility, that I'll be able to change parts in progress.

Well that's huge beast and it has 980 mobility (desktop alike) card.
I think there you got more space because 980 mobility is bigger than 980M.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yeah, so, i've got news, in my specific situation i could not upgrade. The laptop was the same but clevo did some mod on the motherboard and voltage. So i could not do a hot swap 980m/1070. I ended up talking to the company i brought it from and will do a swap with the same model with 1070 inside, bringing all of my internal components to the new one and paying around 300 euros. This way they can sell mine as used.

Thanks for the update Jeancly! May I ask where you bought yours? I checked with pcspecialist.co.uk and they aren't able to upgrade my P751DM-G...
