So I'm looking at about 1k as my budget but the less the better. I'm looking for a good quality, well built, reliable laptop. While performance is obviously good I'm really looking at the construction of the computer. It seems that most aren't the best built. I've considered getting another macbook pro however the internals seem to be quite out dated.

If you're dead set on a Mac, I believe there's an MBP refresh coming soon.

Otherwise, take a look at the Razer Blade stealth. I have the big brother and I know someone who has the Stealth and they are beautifully built computers. I believe they start around $1k for the Stealth.

If you're in the United States (don't know about other countries), the Microsoft Store has a 10% discount on just about everything for students and an excellent computer care program comparable to Apple Care so if it craps out on you, it's possible just to swap it out. I think it even covers accidental damage with a small premium. I got my Blade 14 from them and I'm never buying a laptop anywhere else.

My PC: MSI X99s SLI PLUS///Intel i7 5820k///Corsair H100i///Crucial DDR4 12GB///EVGA Supernova Gold 750w G2///ASUS GTX 1080 Strix///Phanteks Enthoo Luxe///Intel 730 240GB SSD///WD Blue 1TB///Intel 6250 WiFi
Current Peripherals: Sennheiser HD598///Corsair K70 LUX///Logitech MX Master///Razer Destructor 2///Saitek X52///Acer X34 Predator

Dell XPS 13 or 15.

MBP refresh if/when that happens, though 1K will be difficult I would imagine.

And if this is your main computer, the QHD screen will be a wonder.

Spoiler

5800X3D - RTX 4070 - 2K @ 165Hz

Is build quality really the most important thing in a laptop for school? Personally Ive never had a problem with a laptop because of build quality. If youre the kind of person that doesnt take care of the laptop, then build quality isnt really a guarantee of anything and buying something cheap might save you money when you actually break it.

Honestly you should look for battery life and screen size as the main factors. Then performance and features (like ethernet port and other things you feel you need)

I've always taken care of my devices. I've had my macbook pro for 5-6 years now and I've never broken a phone. I just found that the construction of my macbook was really nice. I'd prefer to have my next laptop be one that I would be able to have for a while considering I can't afford to be dropping a grand every year on a laptop. Battery life is a big factor for me and before the battery went to shit in my mac it had been great. While I'd like a new mac I can't wait until the next one to come out and the current one has outdated specs.
