Prolimatech PRO-SAM17 ... Fanless?

i was told that the sam17 cannot be run fanless, and i was told it wouldnt work with a 35 watt t processor. but in this review they are using an 84w cpu, cooling it fanless, and getting temp results lower than that of an intel stock cooler. how is this?

The question isn't whether the cooler can be run fanless, the question is:  Will your CPU continue to run if the cooler is fanless?

 

Assuming there is good airflow through the case you might not need a fan on the cooler itself, or if your CPU has a low enough TDP it might allow passive cooling.

 

Give it a try.  Start by watching your temps under idle and light loads, then if they are safe try some stress testing.

 

But I would not jump straight to full load testing.
