Ok So I had an amd cpu and I got an Intel i7 4790k and I had the stock cooler on it for a while but I got tired of my pc getting so hot like 80c and I put on the tx3 and I have had pretty much no change in temp sometimes its even worse. Can someone help me out please I wiped the thermal paste off with 91% percent thing what ever its called with a cotton ball then put on more using the drop method and put the cooler on and its still bad. Do I really have to drop a 100 dollars on liquid cooling or is it fine playing at 70-80c Temps?

You can buy a $20 air cooler like the Hyper EVO 212 and be fine. The stock cooler can only perform so well no matter how well you apply everything.

But which one you get really depends on your case. Some might not fit in it.

Hmmm, I would check the mounting of your cooler. Also you can try the cross pattern for applying thermal paste. Which thermal paste are you using?

Is your CPU overclocked?

CPU: i7-12700KF Grill Plate Edition // MOBO: Asus Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 // RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14

GPU: MSI GTX 1080 FE // PSU: Corsair RM750i // CASE: Thermaltake Core X71 // BOOT: Samsung Evo 960 500GB

STORAGE: WD PC SN530 512GB + Samsung Evo 860 500GB // COOLING: Full custom loop // DISPLAY: LG 34UC89G-B

Not sure some average case but I got like 4 case fans

"Average case"  Yeah, we know exactly what you're talking about. :P

So you bought a prebuilt and replaced some of the parts? If so, do you have the name of the model you bought?

Hmm...I don't know if watercooling can fit inside of that. Maybe it would be cheaper to just get a new case? :P

what do you mean it CANT FIT

You can fit a 120mm radiator in the back, and possible even 240mm at the top but you have to check for clearances, especially at the top, to make sure you can fit the radiator itself, and also the fans you mentioned, and still not clash with any component. Some cases won't be able to fit anything thicker than a 25mm-deep fan in those top spots, and other may let you squeeze a 27mm radiator there if you are lucky with the location of RAM slots, CPU power cable and chipset heatsinks in your motherboard.

how do Ik if I can fit a 240mm the two fans on the top have like an inch gap between them I'm guessing  i cant then?

Whether an AIO water cooler can fit or not, I don't think the case can be behind your temps. May not be the highest end case ever in many dimensions, but it's no oven.

If the mounting holes are properly aligned, what you would need to check is that between the roof and the edge of your motherboard there's at least 25mm + 27mm + 1-3mm of margin for washers, screw heads, etc. If the fit is too tight, you may have problems mounting it without removing the motherboard first (I managed to break a few RAM slot clips out of laziness in a tight-fit case).

You could always put a passive radiator, i.e., omit the fans, but then again you may just use a 120mm cooler mounted in the rear fan slot (it's a 120, right?), perhaps with some creative routing for the hoses (I don't know the case itself so take everything I say with a grain of salt). Many 120mm liquid coolers will already be overkill for a non-OC i7 4790k. You should be doing reasonably well with your current cooler, and a 212 should definitely be enough (the TX3 isn't really the same as the 212, but at stocks it shouldn't matter).

If I get a liquid cooler is it fine if i just get the one with just 1 fan like is it that important to get 2 because I dont think if will fit

For stock speeds? Yes, an H50 or Seidon 120v or any other brand's 120x27mm cooler should be more than enough, just make sure you can fit the extra space for the hose connectors above or below the fan slot (no conflict with the GPU, etc).

You may want to confirm the cooler itself is behind those temps before buying anything, though.
