oh man, 1440p is a dream - great for work and play.  You can find a decent, 27" IPS panel for around $399 CAD.

I personally opted to upgrade my HD7950 to a GTX 1070 and am very happy with the switch.  Every game I own runs at a solid 50fps with all settings maxed -- when I turn off AA (I usually do because I don't notice the difference), I'm sure the FPS will be even higher.

CPU -AMD R5 2600X @ 4.15 GHz / RAM - 2x8Gb GSkill Ripjaws 3000 MHz/ MB- Asus Crosshair VII Hero X470/  GPU- MSI Gaming X GTX 1080/ CPU Cooler - Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3/ PSU - Seasonic G-series 550W/ Case - NZXT H440 (Black/Red)/ SSD - Crucial MX300 500GB/ Storage - WD Caviar Blue 1TB/ Keyboard - Corsair Vengeance K70 w/ Red switches/ Mouse - Logitech g900/ Display - 27" Benq GW2765 1440p display/ Audio - Sennheiser HD 558 and Logitech z323 speakers

there is a noticeable improvement in sharpness and detail with 1440p. in addition aliasing is reduced, but only a bit. you still have to use AA to reduce jaggies and shimmering further in games. as for the 1070, it can do 1440p gaming just fine.

^Pretty much this.

If you can get a 1070, get that. Don't even think about dual GPU solutions, it's just not worth it.
