So i bought my desktop with 4gb ram only. i need to upgrade now but i see that the ram used in my pc was sold as a pair and i checked on ebay for just a single stick of the ram but i found none.

Check with the manual to make sure the RAM you're thinking of is compatible; chances are it will be, but it's still worth a look. On the surface it looks fine to me. Mixing RAM isn't so bad nowadays as it was a few years ago. Today's systems are pretty smart and will just downclock if you happen to mix and match speeds.
