graphics drivers wont install

I did a little digging on Reddit for you and found something posted by someone called "FailsTheTuringTest" that may actually solve your problem, though it doesn't look like it'll be very straightforward.

QuoteI have Windows 10 Education and recently got a 1070. I went through a bit of an ordeal to install the drivers. Let me give you a tip: Before you do anything, do the following:
- Press WIN + R to open a Run dialog
- Type "winver", Enter.
If version is Version 1511 (OS Build 10576.29), you should be good.
If version is Build 10240, driver installation will fail, so don't do anything with the video cards yet. Apparently with Education, Windows Update won't always grab big updates like version 1511 automatically, because it's considered an Enterprise edition, and these updates are supposed to be handled through your organization. Problem is, most people who got Windows 10 from DreamSpark or whatever aren't actually going to set up Group Policy and all that shit to connect to an enterprise network. So to get this to work, you need to download an updated ISO and update from that, and the standard (Home/Pro) media creation tool will not work for this. Get the academic one here and have it download an ISO. When downloaded, double click the ISO to mount it, double click setup.exe, and follow the prompts to "upgrade this PC now". This will take an absurdly long time (half an hour, I think?) and will require multiple reboots. Once this update is installed, you can go through the standard DDU->shut down->install video card->start up procedure and you should be good.
Hope this will help some folks avoid the nasty troubleshooting I had to go through. The exact error message I was getting was "This NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows", and it took me hours to figure out what the hell was going on. nVidia support wasn't any help either, but I told them what I did to fix it, so hopefully they'll be more helpful to the next guy if someone goes that route.
