Upgrade current gpu or sli?

I currently have a msi gtx 960 2gb, and play at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. I want to upgrade to 2560 x 1440 resolution. I so I was wondering if it would be cheaper to get another gtx 960 and run it in sli, or to sell my gtx 960, or get a better gpu to replace it. Bearing in mind I'm on a budget and not wanting to spend more than £400 on the monitor and gpu.

tbh i think the VRAM on the GTX 960 will not be enough to run 1440P at a good framerate

EVGA 1060 if you don't plan to SLI, Sapphire Nitro RX 480 if you do.

Would that then be able to handle 4K gaming if I chose to upgrade to 4K in the future?

Crossfire (2) RX 480s could but a single 1060 or 480 wouldn't.
