Hi guys, so you know i am building my first rig and i have been buying the parts one by one. the last one i receive was the motherboard, it's an Asrock z170 extreme 4, it was bought open box from ebay, i now only need the cpu and the graphics card. so i begin assembling it today and when i went to power it on it just did nothing. no fans moving, no debug led screen on, no power supply on. I know the system wouldn't start since it does not have the cpu installed on it, but at least i wanted to see if it turned on but it did nothing. i tried testing the power supply using a paperclip on the 24 pin connector and the power supply turned on. i tried turning on the mobo via the button on the board itself, via the front pannel on my case and by connecting the pins that connect to the front pannel on my board with a conductive metal. hours later i tried taking the board out of the case because i read somewhere it could be a short circuit beetween the case and the board. i connected it to the power supply and nothing happened, then i was unplugging and plugging it again and the debug led turned on by a split second. i kept playing with the 24 pin connector plugging it and unplugging it and the debug led did that thing some more times but that was it. still no definite power.

do you guys think my board is dead or the lack of processor does not let the board start in any sort of way?

Plug in your cpu and see if it persists

I +1, try to get your CPU before GPU and plug it in and use on board graphics, Also gives you the added benefit of having a working PC while you wait for the GPU.

lol it wont turn on without a CPU or RAM, you need those first fam xD

it has the ram installed. shouldnt it at least light up the power button led or the reset button led or the debug led? or it's normal that it does nothing if it has no CPU?

no cpu = no nothing, idk about LEDs and stuff but i know for fans atleast with me they never turned on unless the whole system was running either so idk,

just never jump to conclusions when you dont have all your parts
