It might work, but definitely not recommended.

so i might be better off trying to just buy maybe one stick of 2 gigs ? and then id just have 4 sticks? and not try and go for the 6 sticks ?

No, he doesn't realize your running X58? I used to run 16GB of Dominator Platinum(2x8) with 8GB of Vengeance(2x4) and it was stable. Try and stick with matching RAM companies.

Yes as long as all the timings and capacities are the same.

Sometimes it works fine. Currently I have 2x8gb corsair and 2x4gb gskill with no issues.

So if I were you I'd buy 3x4gb sticks... either you can add them and end up with 18gb or end up taking out your 3x2gb sticks and end up with 12gb. Either way it's improvement.

Also, you don't need to buy a triple channel kit, just 3 sticks of the same memory should be fine... usually.

Capacities don't matter I have never had a computer until now that had all matching RAM, even on this rig I had mixed RAM at one point.

Oh I see. Nevermind then!

Same timings only then.

So I can use 2x8GB Kingston hyperX beast 1600MHz CL9 with the 2x4GB Kingston hyperX T1 1600MHz CL9 I already have and have 24GB of RAM total? I was worried that being overclocked might cause stability issues. I have a Asus P8Z68-V pro gen 3 with a 2600k at 4.5GHz.

I really can't afford to buy 32GB atm at the rip off prices here in New Zealand so if it'll work fine that'll be perfect!

I guess I'll try it and see. Should have bought more then 8GB when I built the damn thing, everything is going out of stock now and getting more expensive :/
I guess at the time 8GB was enough but not anymore...
