So I was looking at amps for my new headphones (E-MU Teak Headphones) and I realized that I had the Astro Mixamp that came with my old pair of headphones. Does anyone know if this is actually a good Amp for the job despite its gaming branding and does it even matter? Thanks in advance.

Its ok. Not exactly audiophile grade, but it will get the job done till you find something better. I recommend the dacport slim (also on massdrop from time to time), or the Bravo V2 ( if you are into tubes ) with a UCA 222. I hear the Schiit MAGNI MODI stack is VERY good aswell.

Headphones:

Sony MDR V6 (DT 250 pads), restored 1987 AKG K240M 600ohm (Cosmos pads with dt250 filters), AKG K7XX, Beyerdynamic DT990 pro 250 ohm, Bose Ae2 & Sony MDR v150. All off of a Bravo V2 shuguang tube, Little Dot mkII with GE JAN 5654 tubes, a CEntrance Dacport slim and a UCA222.

I haven't used the Astro MixAmp for a quite a while, and maybe there are newer version out. However, my old Astro MixAmp had few issues.

1. Static noise is introduced after 40% volume level

2. Left & Right balance is messed up every time you turn the dial. Left and Right are only balanced at very specific points in the entire dial range, so you have to fin tune the dial to get a balanced left and right AND volume

Maybe those points are addressed in current models, but I just don't really care to use them now.

I have a newer version that I use to hook my sennheiser's up to my PS4 when I play that which works really good (no static). it will be fine unless your looking for really a high quality experience, which you not gunna get in that price point.

edit, looking at the price of those headphones you'll probably want to get a proper good amp/dac.
