This one is very niche but I saw a very tiny ITX case that is just about the size of the motherboard and some extra (no PCI extension slots at all) with a 150W PSU and that's it. Below that you're looking at ITX thin and NUC territories. The thing is, what if I put a 7870K in it and try to game on it? I like to have a transportable desktop around (I travel a lot) and a case this tiny might fit in literally any bag so a big plus for me over even something like a RVZ02 that is compact but still way too heavy to carry around.

Or maybe Zen APU (rumoured to have HBM and RX 460 performance) might worth waiting for

Note: I don't want a gaming laptop it's cumbersome and unnecessary for my use, let alone expensive

I'd wait ( what I am doing for my silverstone htpc case) but faster ram on current apu platforms will help. 720 will be fine 1080 low to medium on current titles from what I reasearched

Silverstone FT-05: 8 Broadwell Xeon (6900k soon), Asus X99 A, Asus GTX 1070, 1tb Samsung 850 pro, NH-D15

The 7870k is somewhat capable today sure, but it would be ill fitted to play AAA games that we've seen this year and such. We're talking 720p and maybe not even 60 FPS at that but if that's ok with you sure.

Ultimately though, if you want a really compact gaming rig I'd wait a bit for ZEN or look into a gaming laptop instead.
