Hi,

I just build my pc, these are my specs:

asus X99 A II

intel core i7 6800k

corsair h100i

crucial ballistix sport lt 32gb ddr4

evga gtx 1080 FTW

corsair rm 850i

OCZ trion 150

WD Red 3TB

I try to boot but I get Q code 53, meaning I have either unsupported ram, or unsupported speeds.

Has anybody had any experience with this? I don't see why it wouldn't be supported.

Thanks!

Did you press the "MemOK!" button in the top right corner of the board in order to skip the check and post BIOS?

I pressed the mem ok button, the system seemed to reboot, and then it just jumped back to q code 53.

No worries.

Pull all 4 sticks of RAM out.  Once you have removed all of them, install just one stick.  I believe D1 is the correct slot for 1 DIMM configuration.

It's important that you remove all sticks prior to reinstalling the one stick only.

After your done, see if it will post.

Okay, make sure that XMP is turned off on your motherboard.

While you only have the one stick in, go into BIOS and make sure to manually set your memory to 2133.  Save, reboot, and shut down the computer.  Install the remaining stick ensuring that they seat properly and see if you can post into BIOS.

It Worked! Thanks! Can I now change the speed to 2400mhz? Or should i leave it at 2133?

No problem!  I'm glad it worked.

So you're more than likely experiencing an issue with RAM quality.  X99, more specifically the IMCs on the Haswell-E and Broadwell-E chips are very picky with RAM.

I understand that you bought your RAM in a set of 4, but did it specifically say that it was certified for quad channel use on x99?  There are sets certified in sets of 4 for use with dual channel and separate sets for quad channel.

Even if it it's not specifically rated for quad channel, you can still manually set it to it's rated speed (2400?), but you may have to increase DRAM voltage or relax timings a bit.    Try setting XMP, but increase DRAM voltage for channels A,B and C,D to around 1.37 before you reboot.  If that doesn't work, bump it up higher, but try to stay below 1.45v for daily use.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi, i got the same error with the Q-Code 53 on my x99-a board. I bought 32g hyperX fury ram @ 2400 mhz, the ram is in the compatible ram list from asus. I already tried the fix from @Tech_proof . Has anybody a clue? I also tried some ram modules from my other machine, just in case that 4 (!) ram modules are broken.
