My computer's been shutting down once a day and it takes some time to boot up

trapizi

Hey guys, my computer shuts down at a random time every day and then it either boot up again or shutdown. I don't know what's causing this. Also whenever I boot up my pc, I have to hold down the boot button on the case for quite long for the computer to boot. Is there something wrong with the hardware of my pc? Thanks a lot for helping!

Something may be wrong with the wires that go from the power button to the front IO section of the motherboard, or with that section of the motherboard itself, or even with the wires. I'd suggest first taking off the wires and putting a screwdriver in between the two pins, in order to jump them and turn the computer on. If it turns on instantly and works fine for about a day, you can safely assume the problem is with the button on the case or something related to the button. If the same thing happens when you try the screwdriver method as to when you use the button, you should try the system with a different power supply. If that works, then the problem was your power supply. If the same thing happens with a different power supply, the problem is most likely with your motherboard.

Honestly, I'm not really sure what you'd do if the problem is with the button on the case, however unlikely that is. Realistically, your only two options are salvaging a button from an old case or purchasing a different case (you could purchase the same case you previously owned, if only to make things easier).

If the problem is your power supply or motherboard, you'll basically have to replace them.

I will most likely not respond to you in a thread unless you quote me.
