So... yeah ^

Stuff: Z97 Extreme4 Asrock mobo, 4790k (no oc atm), GTX 970, win 8.1, evga nex750b, OS on SSD.

Background: Computer had been off for 2 weeks while I was on vacation. No issues when I got back. This was about a week ago. I've been cleaning so the computer has been off more than it has been on.

I went to bed the night before last at 2:50 ish, never turned it on all day. Last night, it randomly turned itself on at about 2:05 ish. Not quite 24 hours. Scared the living f*** out of me as I was feeling a bit anxious. Turned on like normal, no issues when it booted or anything seemingly different. Just turned itself on. I shut it off before logging in. I have no software that could do that (knowingly), I have none of the features on my mobo that could possibly be the 'culprit' turned on (never have used any of it). I have never run into anything like this with this computer after nearly two years of having it. Everything in this computer has worked perfectly except for the GPU which has been argumentative occasionally with games/performance.

When I turned it on this morning, it went through some 'updates' with two restarts. I never told it to update and I don't have auto-update turned on. I never got any notification like 'this system will shut off in...". All the updates I'm behind are still there, waiting for me to give the ok... Did a full scan with malware bytes, nothing (longshot but yeah'now?).

Does anyone have an explanation for any of this?

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Wake on LAN and other various related things always pull this shit on me.

Scares me every time.

If it is going to be a problem the simplest fix is to disconnect it from the internet.

If that doesn't work you could unplug it until you need it

Super Edit: I just remember what i used when i had this problem

run: 'powercfg /lastwake' from your command prompt and see what it spits out

It'll show you what caused your computer to wake up and then you can co about from there fixing it

Edit #2: this wont work since you power cycled your system since it mysteriously woke up. Next time it does this run the command BEFORE turning off your pc

Go into the BIOS and make sure none of the LAN Power on or PS/2 Keyboard Power on stuff is enabled.
