Do they use the same connector?

Is there something on the connector that would prevent full insertion (Sennheiser HD5XX series, I'm looking at you)?

If the first is yes and the second is no, then you can likely just plug it in. Honestly, why though?

The first is yes and the second is no. It is honestly just because the Astro A40 mic sounds like crap and i don't have the money for a good mic at the moment, but i can get a Hyperx Cloud 2 from my brother.

This would have to be true on both headsets. The other thing is that the mic may also sound like crap due to other reasons. The Astro is a USB headset, right (I don't actually know, since I don't follow gaming headsets. Let me know if I'm wrong.)? The card that the Astro uses would possibly be a large part of the reason that the sound isn't any good.
